IE 7, Phishing Filter & You.
When I finally upgraded to IE 7, I noticed that sites loaded a little slower than before. Not a lot but even 5 seconds gets on my nerves.
Anyway, I did a little research and found that having the phishing filter turned on was causing the delay. Basically, the browser was checking each page to see if it was a phishing/scam site. So I did the smart thing, I turned it off.
Well, a few months later I started a new site and emailed my list about it. Well, I received an email from someone on my list. Below is part of it:
As soon as the site loaded, IE reported that this was a phishing site and that I should not enter any info into it. …… It could get your site shut down if enough people click the link to report it.
Well, I turned on my phishing filter to check the site out and sure enough, it was giving a false positive. Luckily Microsoft has a way for site owners to request a correction and it only takes upto 24 for BUT if the person on my list didn’t take the time to tell me, I would have never known and lost 100s, maybe even 1000s of dollars.
So, if you have the phiishing filter turned off, you might want to turn it on from time to time to check out your sites. And don’t think that just because it’s ok today that it will stay ok. Microsoft has a feature that lets people report sites. So if enough people report and it’s automated, your site could get listed in the future.
Take care,
